Bank line is unmatched
The imported statement has a deposit, but Odoo has not linked it to an existing payment or appropriate accounting counterpart.
A customer says they paid. The money appears in the bank. Yet the invoice still shows open—or the bank transaction is sitting unmatched in Odoo. The fastest fix is to trace the cash through the bank line, payment record and invoice instead of clearing balances blindly.
The correct path depends on how the receipt was recorded and how your Odoo accounting is configured. You may need to match a bank statement line to an existing payment, register a payment against an invoice, reconcile the receivable account, or investigate a payment sitting in an outstanding account.
The imported statement has a deposit, but Odoo has not linked it to an existing payment or appropriate accounting counterpart.
The receipt may exist, but the payment has not been applied or reconciled against the invoice's receivable line.
A payment may be posted to an outstanding receipts account pending bank matching, depending on the journal configuration.
Partial payment, bank fees, payment processor deductions, foreign exchange or a short payment may explain why an exact match is not available.
Use this sequence to isolate where the receipt stops moving through your configured accounting process.
Verify date, amount, payer text, reference and whether the bank imported the transaction once or more than once.
Look for a registered customer payment that matches the same bank transaction and customer.
Confirm the correct customer invoice or invoices were settled, including partial-payment or grouped-remittance scenarios.
Review residual open amounts, outstanding accounts, write-offs or bank fees before finalizing the match.
Start with the visible status, then test the likely explanation. Menu labels and detailed behavior can vary by Odoo version and setup.
Check whether the payment was already recorded, whether its amount/date/reference aligns with the bank line, and whether a duplicate import exists. Avoid creating a second payment just because the bank line is unmatched.
Find the payment record and confirm it uses the correct customer, receivable account and invoice. The cash can reach the bank while the invoice's receivable line remains unreconciled.
Review how the bank journal uses outstanding receipt accounts, whether imported statement lines are being matched to payments and whether older deposits are still in transit or duplicated.
Check for a partial remittance, multiple invoices paid together, processor fees, withholding, deductions, foreign-currency movements or a customer short-pay. Record the difference according to its actual nature.
Enter the invoice amount and what actually arrived in the bank. Use it to quantify a short payment or extra amount, not to decide automatically how to post it.
A residual is not automatically a write-off. It may reflect several invoices, a bank fee, a credit, a foreign-exchange difference or an amount still due from the customer.
The bank receipt is $48.00 below the invoice. Check remittance advice, fees, short payment or whether the customer paid multiple invoices together.
Do not register cash a second time if a valid payment is already present.
Confirm customer, currency, date, reference and invoice—not just the number.
Investigate fees, remittance details, credit notes and remaining customer balances first.
Old balances can hide missing bank matching, duplicate postings or in-transit items.
Keep the accounting trail intact and correct the underlying transaction or mapping.
Review unmatched cash and unresolved invoice balances before closing receivables.
The bank statement line may not be matched to an existing payment, the payment may not be applied to the invoice, or the transaction may contain a partial amount, duplicate, wrong customer reference or outstanding-account entry. Trace the bank line, payment and receivable entry together.
A bank deposit alone does not guarantee the invoice's receivable entry has been reconciled. Check whether an Odoo payment exists and whether its receivable line is linked to the intended invoice or invoices.
Depending on journal configuration, an outstanding receipts account can act as a temporary account between recording a customer payment and matching it to the bank statement. Review the actual journal setup and ledger activity in your database.
A single remittance can cover multiple invoices. Use the remittance detail to allocate the receipt correctly and confirm the total applied amount agrees to the payment, accounting for any legitimate deductions or differences.
Only after determining what caused it and confirming the adjustment is appropriate under your accounting policy. The difference could be a fee, an unapplied credit, a short payment, a foreign exchange item or an amount still owed.
